Darien National Park

Darien National Park was declared in 1981 by the Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Biosphere Reserve Site.
It is characterized as one of the most wooded forests around the planet Earth and is the largest National Park in Panama. Has extesión of 579.000 hectares, the largest protected natural area of Central America and the Caribbean. His prodigious nature includes mountains over 2,500 meters elevation, navigable rivers such as the Tuira or Chucunaque and a great variety of flora and fauna.
Its forests are home to unique plant and animal world of extraordinary beauty as the harpy eagle, parrots, macaws, tapir and jaguar, unfortunately many of these animals are in danger of extinction because of deforestation and indiscriminate felling of trees as what are the cocobolo, teak and espaves.
To visit Darien National Park can be done by bus from Panama City or by air to the community of El Real. If you prefer the adventure can be transferred by road to the community Yaviza then move to Real by boat.
Through the National Environmental Authority (ANAM) can learn to count with accommodation at its headquarters in El Real or its protection stations in Cerro Mono Pirre or Crossing. This park is a place of adventure and experience, the contacts with the rainforest and indigenous groups is a unique blend of beauty and intrigue.
