Kuna Yala

Description

The Archipelago of San Blas or Kuna Yala or the Archipelago of Mulatas mis located  in the Atlantic Ocean. Known as the San Blas district, covers an area of 3.206 km2 and extends from the border with the Province of Colon to the border with the Republic of Colombia. 

This consists of a coastal strip bounded by the Cordillera de San Blas and have more than 400 islands of coralline formation. Lined with palm trees and white sand beaches. In this quiet area of the Caribbean Sea and the climate is generally tropical with pleasant sea breeze. This group of islands is completely free of insects and snakes, which in itself is an extraordinary . 

Most of the 27,000 Kuna Indians habit only 52 of the islands of the nearby coastal regions. Almost all other islands are inhabited by a dependent care and protection of his precious coconut and fruit, which, together with fish are their main source of nutrition. 

It is distributed in four corregimientos called: Nargana, Ailigandi, Tubuala and Puerto Obaldia. Even today, large canoes with sails called "canoes" and capable of developing high speeds for their size remained the usual means of transport between islands and mainland. 

The Kuna are small in stature and simple character and foreigners feel immediately happy with the hospitality and cordiality of the people. As a result of missionary efforts, the modern era has been separated into different groups and religious sects. 

This certainly has not promoted the spirit of community that should unite so small group of people from the same origin and race. Despite this, many Kuna have maintained the beliefs of their ancestors with slight modifications. 

The Kuna women as custodians of tradition and culture. Their dress, typical of jewelry and beauty are a reflection of family welfare. They are the ones who wear the beautiful molas. 
Molas are considered one of the most sophisticated handicrafts in Latin America. They are woven by women in thematic pairs and applied the blouses they wear. 

In addition to the Molas, the women wear brightly colored cloth tied around the waist, as a skirt and a red scarf with yellow motifs on the head. Additionally, are adorned with necklaces, rings and bracelets of gold with which complete the daily dress. very concerned about their physical appearance, the Kuna are wrapped ankles and wrists in bracelets made of beads in bright colors this makes these body parts remain thin, which is a symbol in their culture beauty. 

The language you hear on this beautiful land is the "Tule Galla, their native dialect, but many Indians can speak Spanish, a language that has been spread in schools by religious groups.
