It is one of the most interesting places near Colón. Portobelo is an old Spanish fort located 32 miles north of Colón. This Spanish colonial fort that was once vital succumbed to the attacks of the pirate Henry Morgan and Francis Drake between the besieged so many pirates in the sixteenth century and later became a small fishing village Visitors today can visit the ruins the fort. Many of the original buildings still remain standing, including the original building of Customs, the Church of San Felipe, and the giant iron cannons.
