Description
Bocas del Toro is one of the province of Panama bordering Costa Rica to the west.
Its capital is the city of Bocas del Toro with an extension of 4.643, 9 square kilometers and has a population of 103,072 habitants.
The archipelago of Bocas del Toro is the essence of the Panamanian Caribbean. I make 9 islands, 51 keys and 200 islets. This archipelago is a perfect combination of nature and historic and cultural traditions with a captivating variety of aquatic species, coral reefs, mangroves, tropical forests, beaches, crystal waters, forests accompanied disturbing all kinds of flora and fauna imaginable.
In tropical rain forests of the islands of Bocas del Toro, there have been over 300 species of vascular plants and nesting beaches in four species of sea turtles worldwide, including the Green turtle, the Loggerhead and Hawksbill Turtle .
The population of the province consists of Indians mixed with Creoles. The Creoles are descendants of black Protestants, their language is called "guariguari" which is a mixture of Afro-Antillean, Ngobe Bugle, Spanish and French.
Bastimentos Island.
One of the most scenic and popular attractions in Bocas del Toro is the Bastimentos National Marine Park, which occupies 13,226 hectares of Bastimentos Island and the surrounding seas. The park has the largest mangrove swamp in Panama, as well as a large protected coral reef. In the interior of the island lies a large freshwater lake, a popular venue for several species of nesting sea turtles. The park is also home to many species of amphibians and reptiles and is known to be an excellent place for birdwatching.
Bocas del Toro has an ethnic and cultural richness that is reflected through the traditions, customs, cuisine, music, dance and other events Afro Antillean, combined with the indigenous culture that still remains intact and we are magically transported to the roots of the continent Americano.
