Chiriqui
Description
The province of Chiriqui is located in the western sector of Panama having as limits to the north of the province of Bocas del Toro and the Ngöbe Bugle, west of the Republic of Costa Rica, east of the province of Veraguas and south of Pacific Ocean.
San Jose de David, is the third largest city in Panama and is home to approximately 85,000 residentes.En this small town also houses the Museum of Art and History José de Obaldía, a treasure trove of artifacts, local paintings and sculptures. The City of David attracts thousands of visitors each March the exhibition of David, where are art festivals, exhibition of livestock and craft sales.
This province was discovered by Gaspar de Espinosa in 1519 and is created as the Department on 26 May 1849, when Panama was still part of Colombia.
Until the arrival of the Spanish, various Indian tribes (Changuito, Zuri, anchovies, Buric, Doraces, bugabas and Guanacaste) inhabited this region. They were grouped under the generic name of Guaymi.
Chiriquí Coasts beautiful beaches contain very uncrowded white sand, beaches and picturesque coves. Two of the most popular beaches are Las Lajas and La Barqueta, both within an hour's drive from David along the Interamerican Highway.
